Personal training when your personnel need it

So, you just took that pricey, all day long, good golly my butt is numb training class and now you need to put some of it to use. Looking around your desk you suddenly realize the book you received with your class is in the car. No big deal, the car is only a 10-minute walk from your desk and it's raining - snowing - sleeting - blowing, or in some cities, all the above. So you grab your coat and head out to the parking lot and rummage around in the back seat between the car seat and the change of clothes for the fitness club and the leftovers from lunch only to find your book sitting under the pizza box with a big greasy pepperoni stain in the middle of the cover. Good thing it's on the book and not on the upholstery. Back at your desk, now some 20 to 30 minutes later, you open your book to the index and see if there is a listing for the one little tidbit of information you need. Nothing. You flip through the pages and then suddenly it dawns on you, that little tidbit wasn't in the book, it was something additional the instructor mentioned that you wrote down in your notebook. The notebook you left sitting on the kitchen table because your third grader needed a note for school.

Sounds all too much like a bad day in a comedy, but truth be known, it happens every day. We have a difficult time using the new tools we have been given until we are properly trained. Often that training is an entire day away from the office just to pick up the two or three things you need. It sure would be nice if that training came in 5- or 10-minute sessions that you could choose from.
